Do you have a message that you want to share with the world? Are you looking for a new way to market your business? If so, then you should know that podcasting is a great way to reach out to new audiences and share your ideas with the world. In this blog post, we will discuss five reasons why you should start a podcast!
Podcasting is becoming more and more popular every day. In fact, a recent study found that 37% of Americans have listened to a podcast in the past month. * That’s a lot of people! Let’s see how this medium can help you and your business grow.
1. Your business and your message
Podcasting is a great way to share your thoughts and ideas with the world. Whether you have a business you are trying to promote or have a message you want others to hear, podcasts could get your content in front of people worldwide.
If you have a passion or expertise that is not being recognized by mainstream media, podcasting can be a great way to share it with others. Podcasts allow people who are passionate about something that is not in the public eye to share their passion with others. You can podcast about anything you want! Whether you’re interested in discussing current events, sharing your expertise on a particular topic, or promoting your business, there are many ways to use podcasting to share your message.
2. What should you talk about?
You’ve got a small business and you want to get more eyes (and ears) on that business. Can you think of 10 topics that might be interesting about your business? Could you talk about those 10 topics for about 15 – 30 minutes? Then you have the makings of a podcast!
Are you a coach? Host coaching courses or 1:1 coaching? Maybe you host some group coaching as well? What do you coach about? Could you list 10 different topics you cover in your coaching course or program? Yup, that’s right… you’ve got yourself 10 episodes of a podcast.
Maybe you absolutely love chicken farming. (you, too?!!) Can you think of 10 things to talk about? I know you can (and if you really are doing a podcast on chicken farming – please contact me!). If you are interested in sharing interesting facts or interesting stories about something that interests you, then podcasting can be a great way to get started!
There are so many different topics that people love talking about, so it’s likely that there are other podcast topics like yours out there already. Just because someone else has one doesn’t mean they have the same information or thoughts on the subject as you. YOUR people want to hear you talk. Get your message out there!
3. How will they hear my message?
Podcasts are usually free and listened to by people all over the world, which means that your message can reach a large audience. Additionally, podcasts are a great way to build relationships with your communities. By creating a connection with your listeners, you will be able to engage them more effectively. By creating interesting and valuable podcast episodes, you will be able to attract new listeners and followers as well.
They will be able to hear you on almost all the podcasting platforms. (there are a few where you have to have a podcast live for a certain number of months before they pick it up). You upload your podcast to a host, set up your iTunes, Spotify and Google Podcast feeds and then release them to the world! If you aren’t sure how to do that, contact me today and I’ll help you out!
4. What if I change my mind or my direction?
I get it. I used to create websites and also do podcast production. So I know what it’s like to change your focus. The beauty of this is, you don’t have to worry about it. Who says you are stuck with doing a podcast for the rest of your life? No one. Put out an 8 -10 episode podcast ‘season’ and then review and refine. You don’t really even have to have the same topics in mind for each episode. Every episode of your podcast can be different if you want. You don’t have to create the same type of content for each episode! This is one of the things that makes podcasting so exciting. You could even change topics for every episode. The point is, you can turn your podcast into anything you want.
Start with some thoughts on 10 different topic ideas and then move on from there. If you decide after your first season that podcasting isn’t for you, then move on. BUT you’ll have evergreen content out there in the world for all to hear. Reuse that content. Repurpose it. Make it work for you.
5. Who is a good fit for a podcast?
OK, saying anyone isn’t what you want to hear. I know. Here’s what I think. If you like to talk. If you have a message that you are saying over and over again. Then podcasting might be a good fit for you. Even if you aren’t a chatterbox (I’m not), podcasting might be a great medium because there’s no expectation. You can host a solo episode and not worry about meeting up with someone else, recording at a ‘normal’ hour, or whether you are wearing a nice top. You have a topic, you hit record and you speak. When done, you send to your editor or you upload to your host with your show notes. Send out an Instagram post or story about your latest episode and move on to the next one.
If you’re someone who loves to share your thoughts and ideas with others, then podcasting is definitely for you! In addition, podcasting is a great way to express yourself creatively. Podcasting allows you to be creative and express yourself in ways not possible with other media formats. Podcasting also allows people who are not writers an opportunity to express themselves.
6. Become the Authority.
Podcasting can help you become an authority in your niche and gain more exposure for your business. If you are a freelancer or consultant who wants to attract more clients, podcasting can be a great way to build trust and demonstrate your expertise. You can use podcasts as a tool to reach potential clients, as well as promote your services.
I’m not ready to start my own, what now?
Maybe you just aren’t sure about starting your own podcast. BUT you don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to be a getting your message out to the world. Why not be a guest on a podcast?
