I have a confession this week. I’m writing this a day earlier than usual. Yup, I usually write this on Friday morning, before it goes out but this week and next week, I’m pre-loading them the day before. I’m not planning to work at all on the 4th, and we are headed on a short vacation next week so I won’t be around for that either. But I wanted to be sure I got this out for you!
The 4th of July holiday holds some special memories for me. In high school I was one of only 3 clarinet players in the marching band, and I can remember having to march in the parades. Hot and sweaty in my marching band blouse and polyester pants. I’m sure glad those days are over! I prefer to watch from the sidelines now. 😎🎷🥁☀️

If you’ve been thinking about starting a podcast but feel overwhelmed by the tech, let me simplify it for you.
✨ You don’t need a full studio.
✨ You don’t need a mixer board.
✨ You don’t even need to spend more than $20 to begin.
Here’s what you do need:
✅ A way to record your voice: Your phone works just fine, but if you want to upgrade, a simple USB microphone like the ATR2100x is a great choice. And I HIGHLY recommend a microphone BUT you can get started on your phone, they make some amazing small mics for phones now too!
✅ Recording software – Free options like Zoom, Audacity or GarageBand are perfect for getting started. Descript is a great all-in-one tool if you want to level up later.
✅ A podcast host – Platforms like Captivate, Buzzsprout, or Libsyn make it easy to publish your show. There’s even a free option through Spotify for Podcasters, though it has a bit more of a learning curve.
✅ Cover art – Use Canva (free version works!) and keep it simple. Big, bold podcast name. Skip the photo unless you’re already well-known.
✅ A show description – Clear, keyword driven paragraphs about who your podcast is for and what they’ll get out of it. Think SEO here.
✅ Your intro, outro, and 3–4 launch episodes + a trailer – These are all just recordings of you. No perfection needed. Music is a nice-to-have, but not a must. And honestly, you really don’t need an intro nor outro. It’s your preference. If you’ve been listening to my podcast, Podcasting for Spiritual Women, I don’t have an intro, just a tiny bit of music – cause I still think music matters.
